Erich Ritter, a shark expert who claimed that he understood shark behaviour so well that he would never be bitten, was rushed to hospital after an attack by a bull shark. Ritter was waist deep in water at Walkers Cay, Bahamas, and was conducting a class in shark behaviour for four students.

The bull shark ripped off a large portion of his left calf, and he was rushed to hospital after the severe loss of blood caused him to go into shock. It is understood that the attack was filmed by a cameraman from the Discovery Channel. At present there is no news as to his condition.

Ritter was well known for his forthright views on sharks, and believed that he was immune from being attacked because he could lower his heart rate.
